Gender Recognition Certificates
A Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) is a legal document in the UK that enables a person to have their gender legally recognised in accordance with their gender identity. Under the Gender Recognition Act 2004, a GRC allows a person to change the sex recorded on their birth certificate, subject to eligibility criteria and the relevant application process.
Expertise and Approach
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the UK regulatory body for Clinical Psychologists. I am also listed on the UK Government’s medical practitioners list for Gender Recognition Certificates (GRCs). The reports I provide can be used to support applications for a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC).
The assessment appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes. During this time, we’ll talk about your experiences of gender and gather the information needed to support your GRC application, including the diagnostic information required under the current GRC application process. My approach is respectful and affirming, recognising that everyone’s experience of gender is different. My aim is to make the appointment as straightforward and comfortable as possible, creating a space where you feel listened to and respected. I appreciate that some topics may feel personal or sensitive, so please let me know if there is anything you’d particularly like me to be mindful of.
Following the appointment, I’ll prepare a report, setting out the relevant information for the GRC application.
The cost of the assessment and report is £400.
