Olivia Doherty - Integrative Counsellor
Untangling life, one thread at a time
Sometimes life gets knotted: old patterns, family stories, anxious thoughts that won't settle. You don't need to have it all figured out. Bring the tangle, and we'll start there, one thread at a time.
I'm Olivia Doherty, I’m Irish, based in Totnes in Devon, with 30 years experience in social care. I’ve spent the last 17 creating opportunities and platforms for people with lived experience to share their expertise. I believe that everyone is the expert in their own life, and that through a supportive therapeutic relationship, curiosity and reflection, people can develop greater understanding of themselves, build on their strengths, make meaningful changes and find new ways of navigating life’s challenges.
l will show up as a real person; warm, honest and fully present. I welcome all individuals, but particularly those who are LGBTQ+, care-experienced, of gypsy or traveller heritage, or living with ADHD.
The ways we learned to cope made sense once upon a time. Rather than pushing difficult feelings away, I can support you by listening with compassion to the different parts of you. Life can be tough and unequal, stress doesn't simply disappear, but together we can learn to ride the waves more steadily, with increased knowledge and confidence in ourselves.
I'm a BACP-registered counsellor with a Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (person-centred, Gestalt and CBT). I also draw on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, parts work and transactional analysis. I work creatively with warmth.
